Rivka Cooper, Poland

Rivka Cooper was born in Zashev, eastern Poland; from where she moved with her family to Cracow. She was an active member of the Akiva youth movement, and married Dulek Liebeskind, leader of the movement. After the Cracow ghetto was established, Cooper served as a liaison, and moved throughout Poland under the disguise of a Christian Pole. In November 1942 she was arrested, interrogated over a two month period, and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau where she heard of her husband’s death in battle. (4:59)
